Install Oracle RDBMS 12.1.0.2 With Grid Infrastructure


Overview

After Grid Infrastructure has been installed, the Oracle RDBMS software needs to be installed. This procedure is for singleton databases.

Procedure

Start Installer

Navigate to where the 12c database installer is located. For example,

cd /opt/app/oracle/software/database

Start the installer:

./runInstaller

Step 1: Configure Security Updates

Since I will be applying the latest PSU separately, I skip the security updates as follows:


Clicked Next . Got the following confirmation message:


Clicked Yes .

Step 2: Installation Option

Install database software only:


Clicked Next .

Step 3: Grid Installation Options

This will be a single instance database installation:


Clicked Next .

Step 4: Product Languages

No changes were made.


Clicked Next .

Step 5: Database Edition

Only Enterprise Edition is available.


Clicked Next .

Step 6: Installation Location

Changed the software location to /opt/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1 :


Clicked Next .

Step 7: Operating System Groups

Changed the groups as follows:

  • Database Backup and Recovery (OSBACKUPDBA) group to dbbackup .
  • Data Guard administrative (OSDGDBA) group to dbdg .
  • Encryption Key Management administrative (OSKMDBA) group to dbkm .

Clicked Next .

Step 8: Prerequisite Checks

No problems were found.

Step 9: Summary

The following screen was displayed:


Clicked Install .

Step 10: Install Product

The following progress screen was displayed:


Clicked Next .

After a while, the following message appears:


Ran the following command:

sudo /opt/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1/root.sh

The output is:

Performing root user operation.

The following environment variables are set as:
    ORACLE_OWNER= oracle
    ORACLE_HOME=  /opt/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1

Enter the full pathname of the local bin directory: [/usr/local/bin]: 
The contents of "dbhome" have not changed. No need to overwrite.
The contents of "oraenv" have not changed. No need to overwrite.
The contents of "coraenv" have not changed. No need to overwrite.

Entries will be added to the /etc/oratab file as needed by
Database Configuration Assistant when a database is created
Finished running generic part of root script.
Now product-specific root actions will be performed.

Clicked OK.

Step 11: Finish

The following screen appeared:

Clicked Finish.
